[quote="bb"]Congratulations!

So it is $150K difference between Ross and KF?
You would still have $100K or so of living expenses between the 2 schools.

I think you could easily get away with UNC without taking any hits in your MBB recruiting. They have solid consulting focus and MBB recruiting on campus. You would have similar recruiting opportunities. Perhaps a bit less hand-holding and less elite air but that's easily compensatable with 150K. Keep in mind however, that consulting recruiting is COMPETITIVE and every single one of your classmate will try it. Not all of them will succeed...

P.S. Both BCG and McKinsey recruit for their summer pre-mba internship programs from UNC (and McCombs for that matter). I highly recommend to do what you can to get through into this program.

Thanks for this! Very helpful. Yes, the cost delta b/w Ross and KF would be ~$150K by my rough math. I think I'm landing where you did; the recruiting advantages at Ross probably aren't worth the financial investment.

May I know your profile?

Sure.

Demo: White male
UGPA: 3.71
GMAT: 750
WE: 3+ years in a Finance Leadership Development program at a Big 3 US automaker, primarily doing FP&A/Business Case development and analysis
Extracurricular: This was the weakest part of my profile. I was involved in a couple of social/networking committees through work, along with a few clubs while in undergrad.

Congratulations!!

First of All this dilemma is sweet: choosing among some of the top schools in the country. KF and McCombs are almost at the same level, but ROSS definitely has an edge over the others in terms of reputation - you're near the M7ish levels.

If you are confident that you'll recover the $150k in few years post MBA (which of course you will) - ROSS would be my choice. Considering the current market, If you're little bit shaky in shelling out that sum, best choice is UNC.

Theoretically, speaking, last year, it was very easy to find a job in tech for example. Consulting was also easy. McKenzie was recruiting people from places like Cox and other schools they would’ve never considered even looking at a few years ago. It’s easy to have a good placement numbers in good years. It is during the bad years when the brand reputation really matters, and when there is a difference between good career services department and the bad one.

In someway, high rank is somewhat of an insurance that hopefully will pay off and help you during the bad times, but at the same time you may never use or need…
