Good day,
I am considering applying to an executive MBA program for the purpose of transitioning into a consulting career. I am particularly interested in working for Deloitte given positive feedback from a friend who works for Deloitte, their overall high worker satisfaction, and other reasons. Consulting interests me as being intellectually stimulating, more flexible, and less redundant than my current occupation.
I have been in the workforce for 8.5 years as a speech-language pathologist, primarily working in academia and in hospitals. I have a broad bachelors degree from West Virginia University, a masters of science in speech-language pathology from the University of South Florida, and doctorate in speech-language pathology (SLPD) from Northwestern University (unlike a PhD, the SLPD is more broad and clinically focused than it is research-specific). I have also just completed the work for a business analytics certificate from Wharton at uPenn and should receive confirmation of completion any day now.
I understand that I am sacrificing the daytime MBA experience and much of the networking by pursuing an eMBA. There are constraints, however, that are not conducive to pursuing a top notch daytime MBA, at this time. I also feel that the data outcomes from eMBA programs related to salary, particularly in the instance of a career change, are more nebulous given the high level of variability among where entering students are in their careers.
With this background, does anyone have data or personal experience that would help me to make a more informed decision as to whether an eMBA from a top program like Duke, Yale, Wharton, etc, would provide a high probability of facilitating a fairly low risk transition into consulting for a company like Deloitte.
Thank you,
Tim
