As a person who got approved for 50% additional time, I want to add to this discussion. I realized that having extra time will have no changed in outcome or may affect your result in a more negative way. It seemed to me that the questions I encountered were slightly more difficult and different from the OG style of questions.

However, for my case, I got the extra time for other reasons but I feel that I need to get diagnosed with ADHD too, since extra time is not an effective solution for someone who is hyper-aware of any sound in a pressured environment. (I never had any good experience at test centre. sounds of door opening and closing, foot steps, and proctor whispering bothered me so much that i constantly worried what if there would be more sounds after a few minutes of silence, and my focus was more on the surrounding environment rather than the exam itself, and shifting my focus to the question back took me so much time because i would wait first for a few minutes to make sure there would be no more sound and thus, extra time itself would not be sufficient to alleviate the issue)

You would better consult a specialist to find out the best solution on how to take the exam. Good luck.

Hi Bluebox55.

People who are allowed extra time to take the GMAT are not given harder tests. The reason extra time sometimes doesn't help people is that GMAT questions can be challenging no matter how much time you have to answer them.

For instance, most people will choose the wrong choice in a hard CR question no matter how much time they have to answer the question.

Also, people who don't know how to handle certain types of quant questions won't be more able to answer them in 3 minutes than they are to answer them in 2 minutes.

I know this post is from a long time ago, but whoever is reading this now, know that extra time is not the only accommodation available for ADHD. A separate room, to minimize distractions is a good one and so is extra breaks to wind down from the extra effort that those with ADHD must extended to focus. Best to everyone.

one can also ask for noise cancelling headphones. without an evaluation or request for accommodations. If you want to bring your own headphones, that requires an evaluation and a formal request for accommodations. Forgot to mention it before. ADHD is the most common ailment for which students request accommodations or assistance. You don't have to be afraid to ask for what you need.
