Before I start cranking away with algebra on a question like this, I look to see if there are some numbers that are easy to plug in and make the work trivial. Sure enough, x=1 and y=1 looks great.
Answer choice C.
Getting math questions right without doing the math...THAT is what the GMAT is all about!!
