For such questions, simply remember formula that
Average Speed = Total Distance / Total Time

Then you're good to go. For this question, calculate this way and you'll land at Option C i.e. 28 mph.

or You can use the formula - for average of 3 different speeds as - (3mnp)/(mn +np +pm)

consider that as a simple weighted average question, where the time spent per speed is the weight

(20*3 + 30*6 + 40*1)/10 = 28
