Hi Muskaan09.

580 is a pretty good point to be at after 1.5 months of prep. At this point, you don't have too far to go to get to your goal.

That said, it may take more than another month for you to get to 700+. It generally takes people a few months to increase their scores by 120+ points.

For some tips on how to get to your target score, see these posts.

How to Score High on GMAT Verbal

Considering I have 6-8 hours/day dedicated to the prep, since I’m not a working professional, even then would it take over a month?

Sure. In that case, you may be able to get to your target in a month, if you prepare effectively.

Hi Muskaan09,

A 580 is a solid initial CAT score (the Average Score on the Official GMAT hovers around 550 most years) - but you will have to make significant improvements to how you handle BOTH the Quant and Verbal sections before you will be able to consistently score 700+. Unfortunately, "cramming" rarely leads to great results with Exams such as the GMAT - and you will likely end up needing at least another 2 months of consistent, guided study before you will be able to consistently score in the 700s. As an aside, studying 6-8 hours a day would increase the likelihood that you might 'burn out' before Test Day (and that is something that we want to avoid).

Before I can offer you the specific advice that you’re looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

1) What study materials have you used so far? What “brands” of CATs/mocks have you used?
2) Do you have an Official Test Date scheduled yet (and if so, then when is it?)?
3) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

Hi, thank you so much for the feedback.

1. I used the official practice exam 1 on mba.com. I learned the basics from a combination of materials. Youtube and OG mostly.

2. Yes. My test date is Aug 30.

3. I’m a fresh graduate so I have a deferred program deadline on the 31st of August. So I would like to keep the score in hand for future as of now.

Hi everyone, I just gave my first mock on mba.com and scored a 580(Q39 V30). This was after 1.5 months of prep. I’m targeting a 700+ score. Is this something I should be worried about :(
I have another month to prepare. Can someone suggest on how to go on from here?

Person below went from a v31 to a v40 on a retake in about 30 days, similar to the time frame you're aiming for. Although they took a bit of tutoring (6 hrs), they mention a variety of free resources/quick tips you can check out. Fair to say including Official Guide questions/Official Mocks into your prep path would be a solid choice. Consider saving 1 or 2 official mocks in case you retake for any reason.

Hi Muskaan09,

The only issue I see is that one month is not a ton of time. Any chance you can give yourself more time to prepare?
