Hi all,
I took the GMAT exam for the first time this past weekend and managed to score a 720 (V:46;Q:42)
The experience was nerve-racking, to say the least. I put off taking the exam at least twice in the past 6 months. But after much rumination, i bit the bullet and gave it a go!
While i'm absolutely thrilled to have achieved a good overall score, it's my Q42 and IR score - a puny 3 out of 8 - that have a me a little worried.
For some context: i currently work in marketing and earned a bachelors degree in Business Studies (Bsc) from a reputable university in the UK; my grade was just under an upper second.
Math isn't my strongest suit - my average final year high school math grade and undergrad modules in statistics reflect this - so i'm little concerned about the Q42 and whether it's going to be enough to convince an adcom of my quantitive aptitude. Also, with respect to my IR score, i clearly didn't give it the attention it deserved during my prep and, as a result, found myself rushing through the last 4 questions due to timing issues.
I spent a major chunk of my prep time working on quant and managed to work my way up from a low-mid 30's to a consistent low-mid 40's in my mocks - i took the Manhattan and official GMAT mocks to prepare for the real thing. On test day and under the time pressure, nerves did get the better of me and i'm certain i made way too many careless mistakes.
The schools i'm looking at require a GMAT score ranging from 660 to 700, so I'm certainly looking good at first glance. But i'm left wondering whether an average quant score will be a potential red flag, given my track record.
I'm not opposed to giving the exam another shot to improve the two sections in questions, but i thought i'd start by appealing to the good folks on this forum to see whether someone can share some advice.
Thanks in advance for taking the time out to share your thoughts
