Greetings Everyone,
I recently took the GMAT on August 18th at an offline center in Pune, achieving a score of
710 - Q50 V34. I'm here to share my journey of reaching this score in a span of effective 40 days of preparation, with the sincere hope that my experience might offer some valuable insights for your own journey. Additionally, I have a small
FREE offering that I'd like to extend to you, which you'll find towards the end of this post.
My preparation began in January 2023, but it was marked by inconsistency. Due to breaks and other commitments, I found myself forgetting much of what I had learned. When I resumed my studies around July 10th, I had to re-familiarize myself with even the sub-topics of Critical Reasoning (Paradox, Assumption, Evaluate the Argument, etc.) for example. Hence, I believe it's a fair assessment to say that I achieved this score in a relatively short 40-day preparation period. My journey started with a mock exam on July 10th, resulting in a score of 610.
Coming from an engineering background in India, Quant was my forte. However, I was notably under-confident in Verbal.
Here's a brief outline of my Prep Journey:
- I purchased a Self-Paced GMAT course by Sandeep Gupta (Top One Percentile) in January. While I found the content excellent, the course validity of 6 months expired before I could complete it.
I managed to cover certain parts of Verbal, primarily RC and CR, from the course in the month of Jan.
- My college resumed in February, leading to a STOP in my GMAT prep. Balancing academics, GMAT, and seeking summer internship opportunities became challenging.
- Around the first week of July, I recommenced my preparation by taking a mock test, resulting in a score of 610.
- Subsequently, I acquired the GMAT Club
forum quiz subscription on my main GMAT Club account (I transitioned to this new account as my previous Email ID faced issues from google).
The
GMAT Club forum quiz subscription proved to be an invaluable tool, and I strongly recommend it to all aspiring test-takers.
- I turned to YouTube (GMAT Ninja) to learn a few SC concepts and also sought assistance from a private tutor for Verbal (not mentioning his name as my experience was mixed).
- I established a
daily goal for GMAT Club forum quiz: 3 Passages + 8 CR + 8 SC + 15 Quant Questions.- During the final two weeks and one week leading up to the actual test, I took the official mocks, scoring 710 in both attempts (it seems that 710 was indeed destined for me).
- The last week primarily involved solving 50+ questions daily while revisiting my
error log.
- On exam day, I followed the sequence: Quant - Verbal - IR - AWA. In Verbal, I mismanaged my time, resulting in having to tackle 15 questions in the last 22 minutes. This was mainly due to being overly cautious in the initial questions. Despite this, I'm content with my overall score.
If I had to distribute my preparation focus, it would be 80% on Verbal and 20% on Quant.
Here are some pieces of advice from my side to aid you in achieving a better score:
- Crafting a strategy is vital – understand your strengths and weaknesses, and create a plan that suits you accordingly.
- While it's crucial to approach the first few questions attentively to set the tone, don't become overly cautious and compromise on timing.
- Cultivate the ability to maintain focus for extended periods – something I personally struggled with. This focus deficit adversely affected my Verbal performance.
Now that my GMAT journey, at least for the time being, has concluded, I'm eager to contribute to this community of fellow GMAT aspirants. For a limited time, I'm offering a
free 1:1 consultation to those who are struggling to
break the 700-score barrier. If you have inquiries about GMAT preparation or if you're seeking a mentor to keep you on track and consistent throughout your journey, please feel free to connect with me here:
