Hey guys,

I am from India and right now i have 2 years of work ex.

1st attempt:
My GMAT journey started back in Jan 2023 when I realized my dream of studying in one of the T20 schools or HEC. So, i bought the GMAT verbal book and was overconfident about the Quant as my raw official mock 1 and mock 2 scores were 690 (Q48) and 710 (Q48) respectively. I scheduled my exam 2 weeks later in the 2nd week of feb and as soon as the exam ended 580 popped up. I wasn't shocked, i was disappointed at my confidence and I paused my prep until April due to some work related deadlines.

2nd Attempt:
I was looking out for some courses and came across E-GMAT's course. I purchased the 2 months subscription after going through their website. I was almost studying 1-2 hrs on weekdays and 3-4 hours on weekends (i know its not a lot but my work doesn't allow me to do anymore). I took a few scholanium practice questions only to realize that my SC accuracy was at mid 30-40 range, CR at 50-60 range and RC at 80-90 range. So, i committed most of my time to SC and CR along with some quant. I scheduled my exam in June and I tried to get my accuracy on the Scholaranium upto 80-90%. I was getting better and better at quant but my SC was very very bad and the E-Gmat's SC course was too theoretical so I wasn't able to get myself to pay full attention but my CR got to a mid 70-80 range. My exam approached soon and I was disheartened to see a score of 660 (Q47, V34). Didnt get the ESR but by that time i decided that my next attempt would be the new Gmat Focus as i was consistently scored a 7 in IR in both attempts with a zero prep. I used to skip the IR questions on the official practices.

In b/w 2nd and final attempt:
Since, i decided to write the focus edition, i haven't prepared in the whole of july and ordered the focus edition quant and IR books. I prepared for 10-15 days and then scheduled my IELTS as well in the mean time got a decent 8 without any prep which boosted my confidence but then the dates of Focus edition were announced and the first exam date was after round 1 deadlines. So this "at this moment, he knew he messed up" meme popped in my head🥲.

3rd and Final Attempt:
Aug 31 was the first time i discovered Gmatclub. I read through some stories and course reviews. I scheduled my exam for sep 26, and bought TTP and Official mock 3-6 to improve my overall score. Since i was bad at SC i decided to go pratice SC questions on TTP only to find out that my accuracy was still mid 40's and I couldn't go through the whole theory of SC on TTP due to time constraints. I started panicking and then the god himself descended in the form of GMAT NINJA. I read through some posts ln GMAT Club forums and found them. Their SC was so sound that in 2.5 weeks my accuracy in SC reached mid 90's, i could solve the hard 750 level questions in less than 1min 45seconds. My RC and CR on the other hand stayed in mid 80's. So, the range of scores in Official mocks 3-6 was b/w 730 and 760 with quant always at 50,51 and verbal 38-41. I was super ready for the attempt in the last week of September only to have a terrible headache and fever 2-3 days before the actual test. So, i decided to reschedule it to 2nd week of october and since i was running out of questions i purchased the Official 1200 questions book. In the next 2 weeks I solved 1100 questions of Q and V from the book. I dedicated 2-3 hours of my time everyday to solving. The D day was finally here and for some reason i wasn't feeling tensed at all. it was no jitters for the first time during a pressure moment for me. I went into the testing room, finished my verbal with 5-6 mins to spare, took the break and drank some water, started Verbal and counted my mistakes (which came to be around 5-6 with 1 of them in the first 10). At this point I was ready to look at my score but IR and AWA still remained. I casually went through both the sections (zero prep for IR and AWA again). The final result popped up after i ended the exam 740 with Q49, V40 and IR8. Happy would be an understatement to describe my emotions at this point. I reaped the efforts I sowed.

Resources Used:
1.) Official GMAT mocks and 2022 prep
2.) E-Gmat - 2 months
3.) TTP - 1 month

Strategies:
1.) When you start your prep, try taking a raw mock to assess where you stand at the start of your journey. Whatever the score might be, just stay content and tell yourself that you need to put some extra effort.

2.) Quant: I found gmat quant to be a brain teaser. The problems are wordy and like to play with your brain. All the questions have some traps. You have to disarm those traps carefully and go about your business. The best practice source for me was TTP but i found the hard level problems on TTP a bit easy as i had an accuracy of 95% but i was still making mistakes on the hard questions in the official mocks. Practicing the 600 Quant questions from the official practice book helped me get to a good Quant level. They are the accurate representation of what kind of questions you might face during the test. Always keep in mind the small nuances of Quant problems like Nonnegative integer, X>0(includes real numbers as well)... this assessment of the solution range even before reading through the whole question helped me omit the silly mistakes.

3.) Verbal SC: Blindly follow GMATNinja for the theory. It's very easy to master once you realise there's nothing much to it. Solve the official problems and TTP SC questions are also on par with the original ones. Trust in the Ninja.

4.) Verbal CR: E-Gmat's course on CR helped me deconstruct the argument into parts and then pre-think. But a non pre thinking strategy helped me better. So, you do whatever you feel is good for you. E-Gmat has a really nice theory as to how you'll need to think to strengthen, weaken or assume.

5.) Verbal RC: I was always an avid reader of internet articles and blogs. So, i didnt really need to prepare much as i was always in the mid 80's-90's range w.r.t RC. I still practiced all the questions on the official book. One tip would be to properly read the question before answering. Take 3 mins to deconstruct the passage and 3 mins to answer the 3-4 questions. Also, keep in mind that you shouldn't assume or draw your own conclusions unless and until explicitly mentioned in the question about what might strengthen, weaken the so and so argument. So, all the answers are already in the passage unless you decide to make it tough on yourself.

6.) lastly, like charles from Gmatninja said the final answer is not always the best choice or doesnt sound right. The best way to go about Verbal is to eliminate the options to be left with the right answer.

Trust the process, put your best effort and official questions are the most reliable source to crack a good score.
