In this question, I have doubts on why option C is incorrect and why option E is correct.

Option C: It is given in the passage that "The colonization also initiated the transatlantic slave trade, marking a dark period in human history. African slaves were brought to the Americas to work on plantations, particularly in the Caribbean and Brazil." implies that workers were brought to particularly work in these regions, and in the passage, no where the author has talked about any other place.
So, according to passage and what it implies, we can infer that transatlantic slave trade was limited to regions like caribbean and Brazil. I feel that if we are marking this option as wrong, we are somewhere bringing in the outside knowledge.. but according to the passage, I feel that this option conveys the right inference.

Option E: A significant factor in shaping the demographics and economy of the Americas.
The passage just says that there was a lasting impact on demographics & economy of the Americas. How can we push it further that it was a significant factor in "shaping" the demographics...?

Please help me in understanding the solution.

Thanks for the question. The word "limited" and "particularly" have different meanings.
Limited means exclusively and only in these two countries
Particularly means mostly or as an illustration but not exclusively or limited to. This is a typical GMAT trap that either generalizes or restricts to make the choice incorrect

A lasting impact means an impact that had significant consequences. I think it is valid to say that something that lasts is significant. It is not the same words but it is the idea of it.

I definitely got tripped up by the word "implies" here and chose answer B since answer D is explicitly stated it felt too obvious and not "implied"...

I think you meant E, the correct answer.

The only feedback I would have is that on the GMAT, the implication is pretty immediate.
However, this question had one of the lowest difficulty ratings in the system so I have gone ahead and modified it a bit to make it more challenging (hopefully at least a bit).

Thank you. I meant to say that it was probably on the side of being too obviously and thus meaning you were right, too close to what is written where there was not enough inferring involved, which is indeed a not a good thing to have.
