A middle school recently conducted Math and English tests for the 80 students enrolled there. 20 percent of the students had a perfect score on the Math test, 30 percent of the students had a perfect score on the English test, and 10 percent of the students had a perfect score on both tests.

Select for Perfect Score in only Math the number of students who had a perfect score only in the Math test and select for Perfect Score in only English the number of students who had a perfect score only in the English test. Make only two selections, one in each column.

Students with a perfect score in Math = 20 percent of 80 = 16 students.

Students with a perfect score in English = 30 percent of 80 = 24 students.

Students with a perfect score in both = 10 percent of 80 = 8 students.

Therefore:

Students with a perfect score only in Math = Math - Both = 16 - 8 = 8 students.

Students with a perfect score only in English = English - Both = 24 - 8 = 16 students.

Math = 80 x 0,2 = 16
English = 80 x 0,3 = 24
Both = 80 x 0,1 = 8

Pure Math = 16 - 8 = 8
Pure English = 24 - 8 = 16

The total number of students at the middle school is 80.

First, calculate the number of students who had a perfect score on the Math test. 20% of 80 students is 80 × 0.20 = 16 students.

Next, calculate the number of students who had a perfect score on the English test. 30% of 80 students is 80 × 0.30 = 24 students.

Now, calculate the number of students who had a perfect score on both tests. 10% of 80 students is 80 × 0.10 = 8 students.


To find the number of students who had a perfect score only in Math, subtract the number of students who had a perfect score on both tests from the total number of students with a perfect score in Math: 16 (Math) - 8 (both) = 8 students had a perfect score only in Math.

To find the number of students who had a perfect score only in English, subtract the number of students who had a perfect score on both tests from the total number of students with a perfect score in English: 24 (English) - 8 (both) = 16 students had a perfect score only in English.

Therefore, 8 students had a perfect score only in Math, and 16 students had a perfect score only in English.
