Hi everyone,
I just wanted to share my story in as little detail as possible to not bore you. Disclaimer: I am a native english speaker.
I took the gmat first in 2017 COLD , fresh out of college. I believe my score wasn't too bad (Not sure the exact total).
I started studying again in 2021 and had a tutor. I got cold feet and did not end up taking the gmat after 3 months of the course.
I started back up 3 months ago not realizing it had switched to gmat focus (whoops) so wasted a good 6-8 weeks on geometry. (Very frustrated to find that out, but purely my fault).
Now the good stuff.
My first mock after studying on Aug.28th, 2024 was a 495. Second mock was on Aug. 30th, 2024 to assure it was accurate. I received a 475. I continued studying and took another mock on Sept. 13th and scored a 455. Keep in mind I still have the material from the tutor, but without his services. I also bought the quant questions and review off the mba website. I've been focusing so hard on quant because if I can't get that up from 29 percentile, the rest does not matter. Every day I study and do quant questions. I reinforce it with the gmat clubs explained solutions (super helpful). I took work off the week before the exam to hammer out quant questions and review. Each day would revolve around waking up, coffee, study. My latest mock (Sept 19th) before the official test(which i took today) was a 475. Including, 29th in quant, 42nd in english, and 17th in data insights.
Test day:
I went into the exam not ever receiving my goal of a 565 on any mock. But yet, I was confident in how much i poured into my quant.
The exam started with quant, verbal, DI. I finished the quant section and took my break pre maturely because I was just parched for some reason. Break was intended to be between Verbal and DI. Any way I felt so good like I had missed only 2 questions at most! Had my fruit, water, etc. Went back in, and verbal starts. It actually feels tougher than the mocks. But I finish that section having to guess the last 1 or 2. I still felt I had done well. Data insights was a bit rough without that break. I had to pee so bad from all of the water and I spent too much time on the (pick one value from this column, pick 2nd value from this column) questions. I finished that section having to guess the last 1 or 2 as well.
Long story short, I received a score of 485. Big surprise right? Seeing as my mocks have been telling me that all along. I feel so defeated after giving so much time to the gmat and coming up 80 points short of my goal. I will update when I receive the scores back but i remember a seeing 29 in quant, again! I thought i crushed it.
All this to ask. Is it time to hang it up, or will I need another 3 months to improve my score to a 565? I have 2-3 hours a day to study. More on weekends. My goal is to retake it in 1 month and improve to a 565. Can anyone give me their thoughts or ideas to help me achieve this? It is much needed.
Big shoutout to the gmat club and all of you in the forums. The community has helped me a lot. And thank you if you took the time to read this. This is technically as little detail as possible from my end.
