Hi,
Thank you so much for this. Offers a great deal of clarity.

Hi,
CorpLawyer18,
Impressive profile but 645 is below average for ISB admits. While they do admit candidates with 640–660, it usually requires a very strong differentiator (unique career story, diversity, or exceptional leadership).
ISB 2025 Application Outlook
If you have not applied in Round 1, With a 645, your application is possible but risky.

ISB Round 2 is competitive (Round 1 is generally better for chances, especially for non-traditional profiles like law).

If you apply with 645, your chances hinge heavily on essays and narrative — showing impactful legal work, leadership, and why MBA now.

However, realistically: retaking GMAT and targeting 700+ will significantly increase your chances.
You have already put efforts, stretch a little and get better score.

Global MBA Perspective

US M7/Top 15: A 645 is too low — average scores are 710–740. Even with strong diversity, it will be a stretch.

Top European schools (INSEAD, LBS, HEC, Oxford, Cambridge): Average GMAT ~680–710.

INSEAD median is ~710 → 645 is below par.

Oxford/Cambridge/HEC may consider a 645 if offset with strong essays, but odds are slimmer.

Other European MBAs (Rotterdam, IE, SDA Bocconi, ESSEC, ESMT Berlin): More feasible with 645, given your profile strength and diversity.

Hi. Makes sense completely. Will plan accordingly. Thanks!

Hi. I think if your mocks supported it, you should definitely give it a shot. There are bad days and bad decisions. If you chose to stick around a question for a long time, that could have impacted the rest of your test and caused a low score!

Hi CorpLawyer18,

I agree with bb. Since you were able to score higher than 645 on your practice exams, taking the GMAT again is a good call.

Hi CorpLawyer18,

ISB as well as programs across the Europe are expected to be very competitive this year. Hence, considering you still have some time, our suggestion would be that you retake the GMAT. There is nothing to lose and an improvement may only prove to be beneficial.

If you do decided to retake, we encourage you to opt for the 7 day free trial of our GMAT course. We are certain it will prove to be helpful.

All the best!

Hi, I gave a GMAT attempt few days back and got a score of 645 (V81, D79, Q86). Was pretty dissatisfied with the score considering I had obtained above 700 in the last 5-6 attempts in official MBA.com mocks. Wanted to understand if the score is competitive for applying to ISB and other top MBA programs across Europe and US.

Short Summary of Profile -

Work Experience - 34 months as a legal associate in Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, a tier-1 law firm in India.
10th Standard Marks - 97% (Rank 3)
12th Standard Marks - 95.6% (Rank 2)
Under Graduation - CGPA 5.97 out of 7 (Rank 8)

Have held positions of organisation and leadership across my school and undergraduate programme, including being heads of multiple committees. Have been awarded the student with best all-round achievement in both 10th and 12th Standard as well. I am a professional certified mediator as well from a well-reputed international organisation.

Would appreciate any advice on whether I should retake the GMAT to improve my candidature. Planning to apply in the second round of applications for all universities.
