Hi everyone,
I want to share my recent experience with the
GMAT Online exam, hoping it can help others avoid the same problem.
I was scheduled to take the GMAT Online on
October 22, 2025, at 10:00 AM.
I logged in around
9:30 AM, went through all the proctor checks (ID, room scan, hardware) successfully — the proctor even said,
“Everything looks good, relax and good luck.”But less than a minute later,
before the exam even started, my screen froze and I got this message:
Quote:
“Virtual Machine detected – your exam is terminated.”
I was shocked. I’ve
never used any virtual machine or prohibited software.
My laptop was fully
reset, used only for studying.
The exam was automatically terminated at
10:04 AM, and I couldn’t reconnect. I immediately contacted both
GMAC and
Talview (the proctoring provider), sent my logs, room video, and full technical info.
Later I analyzed the
Respondus log file, which clearly showed that the failure was caused by a
server-side issue (Twilio connection failure) — not by my device or any virtual machine.
Despite all the evidence, the initial Test Security decision was final (score cancellation, which is funny because i didn't even have a score, ban and no refound) and I’m still waiting for a fair resolution or a voucher.
If you’re planning to take the GMAT:
- Do it at a test center if possible. The online version can fail for reasons completely out of your control.
- The system can terminate your exam automatically even before it starts, and the appeal process is long and unclear.
- Keep a copy of your Respondus log — it’s the only solid evidence if something goes wrong.
Hope this could help someone
