Artistic director: In recent weeks, our box office results have suffered because we have had to cancel or reschedule more performances than usual. A recurring reason is that the lead actor has missed shows after his voice gave out under the demands of the role. Given this pattern, ___1___. Our current lead has better vocal technique than many actors we could hire for the role, but this particular part requires unusual stamina, and a seasoned touring lead is more likely to perform consistently. In addition, ___2___.

Select for Statement 1 and for Statement 2 the two sentences that best complete the argument. Make only two selections, one in each column.
for s1)
replacinng the current lead seems to be most reasonable choice. since it supports the next statement.

for s2)
less expensive will make sense, since it logically supports the statement before it

answer is
b, e

1. statement 2: We should replace current lead with seasoned touring lead - this makes sense as the author is comparing the current lead with seasoned touring lead in the next sentence, so should have introduced this role here

2. Since the author is supporting getting seasoned tour lead using in addition, they cost has to be a positive too, which is reflected correctly in the statement 5, seasoned tour lead is less expensive...

Select for Statement 1 and for Statement 2 the two sentences that best complete the argument. Make only two selections, one in each column.
Artistic Director Argument:
• The box office is suffering due to frequent cancellation/rescheduling.
• The reason is the lead actor's voice failing under the role's demand.
• Although the current lead has good technique, the role requires unusual stamina.
• A seasoned touring lead is more likely to perform consistently.

Statement 1: The correct statement should state the recommended action based on the problem and reasoning.

Statement 2: This should strengthen the decision by addressing a likely objection, i.e., cost.

In the line next to blank 1, it compares the current leads technique against seasoned leads stamina. Amd since the goal is to stop box office loss caused by cancellations and rescheduling, it logically follows to switch the lead actor with seasoned actor.
Blank 1- we shou,d replace the current lead actor with the seasoned touring lead
Blank 2- when costs from cancellation and last minute replacements are considered, hiring seasonsed touring lead is less expensive than keeping the current lead.

First you have to read the whole text, from this you can understand that general opinion is that the seasoned touring lead would not create as many cancellations and reschedules as the current lead actor, so we need to choose two options for the gaps that are consistent with this information.

For gap 1 "we should replace the current doctor with the seasoned touring lead" fits bets. It's consistent with what the previews two sentences say and introduces what he said in the second half of the text. This option introduces the idea of replacing the currently lead and the following sentences give reasons why that decision should be made.
For gap 2 "when cost from cancellations and last minute replacements are considered hiring the seasoned touring lead would be less expensive than keeping the current lead". From the use of "in addition" we understand that option to must be something that "adds on" to the previous sentence (so the option must say something that supports what is said in the previous sentence by providing additional evidence/reasons why it must be right).

Why do other options are wrong? The options are considering reducing ticket prices or not having a single leader role are incorrect because those options are not mentioned anywhere else in the text. The fourth and fifth option are inconsistent with the other information in the text, which all seems to suggest that changing the lead actor with reduce the expenses.

After ---1----, we find a comparision between a new touring person and previous one, so 1 must be the proposal of that touring person to be include.
----2----, 2should be a supporting information to converge to the conclusion. 5 and 6 talks about the reasoning behind the conclusion but 5 is actually opposing it while 6 is favouring the conclusion.
2,3 are not aligning with conclusion
, while 4 is simillar to 5, clearly opposing the conclusion.

If we continue to read, in the last but one line, the director accepts that the current lead is better than any they could hire. However, he uses "But" showing that some other factors are more important here to be considered. And then he proposes for seasoned lead. To support his proposal, he should cite something that could save the box office revenue loss using the seasoned artist. Thus, blank 2 uses a logic that loss using seasoned artist is less than loss of not performing shows by current. Thus, he proposes replacing current lead with seasoned artist in blank1.

This question is very helpful and nice in that it gives you the answer for Blank 1 if you keep reading the paragraph! lol. In sentence 4 you see that choosing the seasoned touring lead is being justified, so the best choice for Blank 1 with that context is "we should replace the current lead actor with the seasoned touring lead".

Blank 2 is a bit more difficult. We want to justify choosing the seasoned touring lead, so look for an option that best supports that. Choices 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 don't work, only the last one does, which supports hiring the seasoned touring lead.

Thus, pick Option 2 for Column 1, and Option 6 for Column 2.

The second statement is the most appropriate for the first gap because it aligns perfectly with the rest of the proposal more so the part that says "the part requires unusual stamina and a seasoned touring lead".
As an extension the last statement perfectly completes the argument by talking about the advantage of hiring the new seasoned touring guide
Hence BF

Blank 1. Find an answer which tells us to find some alternative to this soln.

1. Talks about ticket prices.
2. Replace current lead with touring lead. Correct
3. Replace so that there is no dependency on any single lead. May be correct. But the second part talks about a seasoned touring lead. Hence 2 is favourable.
4,5,6. Doesn't make sense here.

Blank 2. Should talk something about the alternative to single lead i.e. the seasoned touring lead.
1,2,3. Doesn't make sense.
4,5. Counter the first blank.
6. Correct. Gives additional info on benefit of hiring a seasoned lead.

Artistic director views are expressed in the following passage.

In recent weeks, the box office results have suffered. Why has the box office suffering in the recent weeks , but not earlier. So, something must have triggered the results to drop. The reason they mention is cancelling or rescheduling more performances than usual.

So, they found the recurring reason that lead actor has missed shows not intentionally, but due to his voice gave out under demands of the role. Given this pattern ——————- .

The next consecutive lines mentions the abilities of the lead actor , and concludes the seasoned touring lead is more likely to be consistent.

So the initial blank should speak something about seasoned touring lead, but that too in a more positive manner. The only option which speaks about seasoned touring lead and with a hint of replacing the lead actor is option2.

we should replace the current lead with the seasoned touring lead

The final lines, In addition ———.

The only option which suits the idea of replacement, adding value to the seasoned touring lead is option F.

when costs from cancellations and last minute replacements are considered, hiring a seasoned touring lead is less expensive than keeping the current lead

Box office suffered--cancellations or rescheduling --lead actor missed due to voice problem.
let's search for (1):seems to be amongst the first 3 choices.
first one- will further affect the box office---out
third one- changing production will add on more costs, so the second choice seems fit for the purpose, which is also confirmed in the following statement of the argument, though lead actor is best choice but of no use due to voice problem, however the seasoned lead will more likely to perform consistently. "In addition" means we are adding to what we have framed till now. so fourth and the fifth one doesn't fit for (2) : sixth one is the best choice.

The tone of the argument suggest that the director is thinking about replacing the actor. as the following line justifies the seasoned touring lead idea. That is why (1) is second option.
In addition to the same reasoning, last point says that there is another benefit of replacing. Hence (2) is last option.

Selections:
(1) We should replace the current lead actor with the seasoned touring lead.
(2) When costs from cancellations and last-minute replacements are considered, hiring the seasoned touring lead is less expensive than keep the current lead.

Following Blank (1), the sentence emphasises that a seasoned touring lead is more likely to perform consistently. That's a strong clue that statement (1) should contain the seasoned touring lead and among the options, only one actually makes that proposal.

For blank (2) the phrase "in addition" signals that the director is about to give another reason supporting the same recommendation, not switch direction. Only one option adds a further supporting point for choosing the touring lead. The others introduce different considerations or shift focus.
