Hi everyone,
About 4 months ago, I started my prep journey with a cold baseline mock (unofficial from ESADE) and scored a 545 (Q73, V82, DI77). I followed it up by starting to do some quant exercises but was then forced to take a break and could only do very little prep.
At the beginning of this year i started studying seriously again and my routine has been about 2 hours a day after work, following the GMAT Ninja Quant video series and doing practice questions on GMAT Club after each topic. Last week, after having finished all the videos, I took my first Official Practice Test to see where I stood, but my score sadly dropped to a 515 (Q70, V84, DI72). I was shocked to see my Quant score decrease after dedicating about a month almost exclusively to it.
In that official mock, my timing on quant (and DI, but thats another issue) was a mess; I spent way too long on the first few questions and had to blindly guess on the last five. To see if this was a fluke, especially because I couldn't believe my prep hadn't brought any improvement , I did another week of just Quant practice and took an eGMAT sectional mock today. The result was even worse: I scored a Q67 and only got four questions right.
On the official mock, I instantly knew how to approach about half of the Quant questions. However, even among the questions I knew how to tackle, I was too slow or my approach broke down on about half of them, forcing me to guess and move on to save time. On today's sectional mock, the experience was even worse: I felt completely lost on many questions. I couldn't see how to apply the concepts from the videos and ended up guessing after struggling to find an approach for two minutes on a large portion of them.
The most confusing part is that my practice accuracy doesn't seem to translate to mocks at all. When practicing on GMAT Club, I get about 65% of Easy, 55% of Medium, and 30-50% (depending on topic) of Hard questions correct and take on average between 2 and 3 minutes. But under mock conditions, I seem to blank out or run out of time immediately.
My goal is to get a 655+ by the end of March. I'm seriously wondering how I should adjust my prep to fix this Quant regression and also have enough time to dedicate to prepping DI. Any help is appreciated!
