(1) 2x = 7 - y
(2) -15 - 2x = 3y
Step 1: Add the left sides and right sides of both equations together to eliminate x.
(2x) + (-15 - 2x) = (7 - y) + (3y)
-15 = 7 + 2y
Step 2: Isolate and solve for y.
-15 - 7 = 2y
-22 = 2y
y = -11
Step 3: Substitute y = -11 back into equation (1) to find x.
2x = 7 - (-11)
2x = 7 + 11
2x = 18
x = 9
Step 4: Multiply x and y to find the value of xy.
xy = 9 * (-11) = -99
Correct Answer: (A) -99
