Hi sarkarsarbani,
You're clearly putting in real effort, so let me be direct: the problem here is the method, not your ability, and that's a much easier thing to fix.
Filtering for only hard and very hard questions doesn't build stamina; it builds a practice environment that looks nothing like the real test. The GMAT is adaptive. Every section starts you at a medium question and moves up or down based on how you answer. You're never handed a wall of the hardest questions from the start. And on the real exam, even the highest scorers eventually hit questions that are too hard for them, because the algorithm keeps raising difficulty until it passes your level. That's by design, not a sign you're behind.
When you strip out the easy and medium questions, your accuracy drops because you've removed the questions that confirm your fundamentals, and your timing collapses because you've removed the quick ones that normally bank time for the hard ones. That result tells you almost nothing about your readiness.
Easy and medium questions are where clean execution gets built, and hard questions sit on top of that foundation. So here's how I'd proceed. Work one topic at a time. Learn the concepts, then practice only that topic, untimed, until your accuracy is high and the approach is automatic. For every miss, diagnose why: concept gap, misread, careless error, or trap. Then add timing on that topic, and only later mix topics into sets with a full range of difficulty. A comprehensive, structured course is built to guide exactly this.
Top scorers aren't grinding only hard questions either. They handle hard questions on time because their foundation is automatic, and that's the thing to build.
For now, stop the all-hard sets, rebuild topic by topic, and save official practice tests for periodic checkpoints. This explains why:
How the GMAT Computer-Adaptive Test Workssarkarsarbani
Hi everyone,
Currently I am giving sectional mock test by filtering only hard and very hard questions in both gmat club and
magoosh. It's because I am of the notion that practicing only hard questions and not the easy/med will build your stamina in exam. But what I have observed is that not only I am unable to complete all the questions on time but also my accuracy is dropping significantly by giving test only with hard questions.Experts please suggest if this is the correct way to practice/write the sectional mock tests? Also pls give suggestions on how to proceed with my prep?
Also another question-Those who get 700+ in gmat exam do you guys write sectional/full tests only with hard and very hard questions or is it adaptive?Sometime I feel that. 700+ guys would have been able to solve most of the hard questions on time had they been in my place.
Someone pls reply.I am feeling very demotivated because of this
