This is a Data Sufficiency question.
We need to determine:
Percent increase=IncreaseOriginal wage×100\text{Percent increase}=\frac{\text{Increase}}{\text{Original wage}}\times100
Statement (1)
Franklin’s wage after the increase = $45,000.
We don't know the amount of the increase or his original wage.
Not sufficient
Statement (2)
Franklin’s wage increased by $2,000.
We don't know his original wage.
Not sufficient
Combining (1) and (2)
After-increase wage = $45,000
Increase = $2,000
Therefore, original wage:
45,000−2,000=43,00045,000-2,000=43,000
Percent increase:
2,00043,000×100≈4.65%\frac{2,000}{43,000}\times100\approx4.65\%
We can determine the percentage.
Both statements together are sufficient.
Answer: C — Statements (1) and (2) together are sufficient, but neither alone is sufficient.
