let his hourly wage be w, so his total weekly income currently is w * 40 = 40 w , which after increasing becomes (w+3) * new hours = 40 w

w*40=40w
w*40=600
w= 15
after increasing hourly wage
(15+3)* new hours = 600
new hours = 600/18
hence sufficient
st 2
w+3 = 20 percent increase over his currently hourly wage
w+3= w*(1+20/100)
w+3=w*6/5
w=15
which gives us again the same eq as st 1 which is 15*40=600
(15+3)*new hours = 600
hence sufficient
