Kaplan tests, paper based or CATs, are great if you are targeting a 500~600 level score.

Take it from an ex-GMAT junkie, tested and approved, the most accurate simulations are, in descending order: (1) GMATPrep (2) McGraw-Hill (3) Manhattan (4) retired paper tests

But I heard that retired paper tests contain a lot of OG questions. Is that not going to be unchallenging?

I think you got GMAT73's reponse wrong. He meant the Kaplan tests, (paper or online) are not trust worthy. He is not talking about retired paper tests. those are from mba.com - two different sources.
