I got a similar but different question.

What if I quit my software engineer job after getting my first admit (not my top choice) and do an pre-mba internship before getting the result from other schools? Will that negatively impact my chance of admission to other schools?

Having gotten a very early admit I have looked at pre-mba internships. They seem really common in the finance industry but prior experience is required. My field I haven't found any options.

I couldn't fathom not working to many bills and responsibilities. Besides I like my co-workers too much to screw them that way. I want to leave a good impression by getting ahead on my work and giving lots of notice. Thats just me but it also has something to do with the fact I like the people I work with and for enough that I couldnt laugh and say have fun trying to do all the work I built up on my desk while I had daydreams of b-school.

Assuming you would go to school this year no matter which school you ended up at... I wish I had done this. I wasted six months twiddling my thumbs when I could have tried to put something together first.

so I am assuming your answer is it's okay?
I am definitely going to an MBA if I get accepted. Even if I don't get accepted to any I plan to leave my current company because I am not learning anything anymore. If I leave, is this something I need to notify the schools about? I don't want my departure to hunt me later when school do the background check and learn that I left my current company.

IF (and thats a pretty big IF) I get an admit, I plan to work in a different division in my company for a few months and as River said- it does not seem very difficult to get an internship in finance and non-profit. I do know some guys who did some stuff in VC/PE just to get a leg up once they got into a pretty top school.
