So I wasn't always into finance, but somehow since college(where i studied philosophy) life in new york has moved me in the banking direction. How do I explain this at interviews? Will school be uninterested in this type of move? :?

you need to create a valid and convincing story about how that happened. If you explain it correctly, it will help you. If you don't, then it will hurt you.

I'm not sure if this will help you, but just something to think about.

I'm a science major, and I often apply for business positions as a intern. Most employer would be pretty curious "why you're here". First, you have to be confident regarding your reasoning. I guess you have to be convinced yourself before you can convice others.

I would say something along the lines of "from my previous work/academic experience, I have develop a great interest in the financial field etc. Withing my previous bank position, I was also able to demonstrate my excellent leadership... etc.

Thanx for the advice. I do think its a matter of convincing myself that moving into finance is right for me, you know, something I'm committed to.

As well as getting the explanation "right", that is, making it sense to the interviewer.
