Verbal does take time but I will have to disagree with BMWHype. Yes it takes time to master it, but 3 months time should be good for you to get your target score (assuming you score 50+ on the Q).

what I mean is you only need to shoot V30 with Q51 to get a 650 (your target score).

Amazing Q score! you dont mind if I borrow that do you??? thanks :P

I am also going to have to disagree with BMW on raising your verbal. If you pick up the Manhattan GMAT SC book and do a bunch of SC's you can raise your verbal up a bit there. Do lots of practice with CR's and RC's. I reccomend getting the Critical Reasoning bible.

Get the OG11 and the Purple OG for verbal if you don't already have these. Do all the verbal problems and review them.

If you run out of materials, use the official paper tests for verbal. These will help you with timing.

BMW is correct in saying that your verbal will not increase drastically, but that doesnt mean you cant get into the lower 30's.

With a Q of 50-51 and a V 32-35 you'll be solid! Don't entirely neglect the quant though!

Good luck

Keka,

It can be done! Your score is so similar to my first score that I can't help to say don't give up! There are two possible scenarios:

First, you are not consistently scoring 30+on your GMATpreps...which means your 30+ V score was luck. If this is the case, then you just really need drill down to basics and focus on that. Unfortunately, this will take a while.

Second, you are consistently scoring 30+ on your GMATpreps, but scored 20 in the real thing. This is a better scenario because 20 is not your true ability, and so you just succumbed to the pressure. All you need to do in this case is work on your nerve, and you will do well. I know it is easier said than done, but try it. Try to treat the test like "another day". I fell into this case and this strategy worked well for me.

Here is my story...1 month from 20V to 32V....

Thank u..bkk145..gmatblackbelt..buffdaddy..bmw.and navy01..for your instant responses..really inspiring..
Yes indeed english is not my first language...but then i was always scoring in the 30's in the verbal section in the practice tests(nt a good score though). The fact that im a sales executive and had to do a lot of travelling even before the days of my exam has taken toll on my energies. But i did pretty well,i hope to keep up the pace in my quant but lost ground eventually in the verbal section.I agree that I needed some additional practice in the CR and SC's.I donot have the resources like MGMAT and 1000 SC/CR/RC...i think i shuld get a good practice with them..

GMATBLACKBELT: Can u pls tell me wat this Purple OG and Critical Reasoning bible are..i have OG11(book) and OG10(Soft Copy) with me.can u also please let me know if have soft copies of the any of the above said material.Thanku...

Goodluck!

Wow..your story resembles so much with mine...pressure..sugar...no sleep...caffeine...i had all the recipe for perfect verbal disaster...I always performed well with same situations in different types of exams like engineering..or certifications..thought GMAT would not be any different....i have started preparing again after my first debacle , with a much lighter head now...

Goodluck guys!

One thing that helped me is to take a lot of practice exams. So when I went into the real one, it's just another exam. However, because there are only 2 GMATprep, use other ones such as MGMAT to get used to the time. Maybe buying a writing pad will help ease the stress.

Most of all, get enough sleep and eat well on the day of the exam! I took a PM cold med before I went to sleep that night and that worked for me. I slept like a baby. But this strategy can have negative side effect, if you are not used to the med -- it can make you even more tried in the morning. I had a cold the week before so I knew exactly how much sleep I should get to wear down the effect.
