rather than to be used in place of instead of. This leaves B, D. B uses being so ruled out. D may be correct however rather that seems to be typing mistake.

I think it is B.
Because all other answers are using either their or they, which I think is sort of dangling pointers. Does n't explain what they are refering to (Squirrel or Tail).
But not 100% sure, what is OA.
