A few months ago, in an effort to boost my GMAT score prior to enrollment at the GSB, I decided to retake the test. I knew I messed up some easy questions on my one previous attempt, so I went for broke.
And...what do you know...at the end, the score popped up - 800! I know since some people will want the facts, it was 51Q, 50V at the Prometric testing facility on 20 N. Clark, in Chicago.
So, I waited for the official score report to arrive. On a whim, I decided to call up the HBS admissions office, and told them about my achievement. They didn't seem too interested at first, but they said they'd take it into consideration, even though they had already denied me admission.
Five days later (last Friday), an admit package arrived at my doorstep! I was absolutely floored.
What's more, my local newspaper just published an article today about it!
