Im so sorry to hear about your horrid score.

Very horrid I say :barbarian

You never mentioned inequality ( does it come under number theory ? ). Number theory for me too is a sore thumb (and I keep hurting it time and again). I agree about the Probability/Combinatorics BS.

According to you which CAT has verbal closest to the real thing ? I seem to be getting most of the 700-800 level RCs/CRs wrong on the MGMAT test.

I have only about 10 days to go. Don't think I can do much now to improve my Number Theory and CR/RC.

Congratulations. You have a great score. Give me an advice please. I had problems with verbal, specially with sentence correction. I worked and now ia have only 2 or 3 SC wrong in a test. But now i have problems with CR, even if in the past i had good results in CR. How can i improve CR?

I suggest that you work with the OG and the OG Verbal guide. Not just practice questions from the OG, but try and understand why the correct answers are correct and the rest are wrong. Don't read only the answer explanations to questions you got wrong, also to questions you guessed correctly, or hesitated in answering. The last 25% of the questions in OG are the hardest, concentrate on those. Definitetely stay away from 'unofficial' CR practice, at least one or two weeks before the real test.

There was also a sticky somewhere in the forums here, I remember it had some basic rules of logic ("If A, then B, therefore if not B, then not A"). Those are very useful, dig them up, I'm too lazy to do it right now :)

Yes, inequalities and absolutes are a huge pain. I count them as part of number theory, not sure if this is correct though.

MGMAT is not very close to the real thing in Verbal (or in quant for that matter). Neither is Kaplan, although it may be good practice. In my experience the Verbal section of the Kaplan CATs is tougher than the real test.

GMATPrep is closest, no doubt about that. The trouble is, its database of Verbal questions is a bit shallow and by the third retake most of the questions you see are repeats. IMO, timed practice of OG questions is the way to go.

Thanks for reply dude ... I am having major problems with number theory problems .... I invariably make mistakes on almost every inequality problem i come across ... Unfortunately GMAT is heavy on these problems :)

It is weird that even after so many decades since GMAT started, not one company has managed to come up with questions comparable with GMATPrep or real GMAT, leave alone the algorithm.

Anyway ... All the best for your apps :) I went through some of your blog posts, I am sure you'd write great essays.

Just got the official score report. AWA score is 5.0. Could've been much worse.
