I have noticed that for the same number of mistakes, my socre in GMAT prep is a lot lower in verbal than in Quant. Why is that? Also, its not because I am making more mistakes earlier in verbal as compared to Quat. I have also seen lower score in verbal (lower by 6 points) even if I have 4 fewer mistakes in verbal as compared to quant. Is it because on average students do a lot better in verbal than quant and the score is a percentile?

A very good observation about the Verbal and Math sections on the GMAT Prep and GMAT itself (since both are closely correlated). Is there a specific reason?
There are several theories about this:
1. The verbal and math sections are using different scoring approaches, there is no discussion a 42 in math is not 42 in verbal
2. The original scoring system is flawed but was not changed
3. Though originally both were equal with time Math gurus have broken and skewed the percentiles (don't think so since you can get 760 with v42)
4. Other
I think it is actually two different scoring systems
However, at the end of the day, it is all about the gmat score. Unfortunately nobody knows how gmat works and scoring is setup, so we are only guessing. It is also quite possible that the original Verbal questions were too hard and GMAC had to weaken the verbal section - not really sure.

Does anyone have a link to the chart by Manhattan that shows which V and Q scores correspond to which GMAT score? Can't seem to find it.
