Is there a big difference in applying r2 or r3?

Im curious about this. I have recently discovered the GMATClub and recognize the suggested 3 mo study plan. I have never taken the GMAT let alone open a book to start studying. My plan was to study for 2 mo and apply by 1/15. I am looking to attend one of the Top 20 schools so I for sure need great scores.

Historically round 3 will give you the lowest chance for matriculation, only because many seats are already taken from round 1 and 2

R3 is typically reserved for the non-traditional candidates.

Military, teachers, etc. People who, for whatever reason, were not gung ho about business school or had some impediment before he/she confirmed if accepted, he/she could attend.

It depends on how many rounds the school has. Typical the last round has very low acceptance rate because most seats are filled. If the school has 4 rounds, then I would say R3 will be about the same as R2. If the school only has 3 rounds, you should either apply R2 or wait until next year.

i went to a school event recently where members of the adcom fielded question. the question of 'is R3 that bad' came up (this school only had 3 rounds)... the adcom basically said 'dont do it', lol.

Agree with everyone above. Additionally, you know it's a bad thing when most schools will open publish that your chances severely diminish with the last application round. :lol:

I agree that it depends how many rounds there are. Cornell has 4 rounds, and I've been told by adcom at Johnson (I'm a grad student at Cornell) that Rd. 3 is perfectly fine. However, I think if it were the last round they may have echoed many of your sentiments.
