I am going to be taking the test next month and i recall ( a long time ago...) that in the end there's a questionnaire that asks to provide up to 5(?) schools to send the score for free to. I do have a few schools in mind although havent done extensive research on it (dependent on gmat score..) so should I bother using the free service or wait till my score comes out(if it is bad/good) and pay the 25$ per school fee later? it's been a while so maybe they dont offer the free score service anymore? Suggestions?

If you do not send the scores to your school(s) on the test day, you end up paying for each school you send your results to later. Also, even if you retake the exam to improve your score, ALL of your GMAT scores from the past several years (I think it is either four or seven) also are submitted. In the end, it doesn't matter too much unless you bomb the exam. At that point, you might be able to improve your score substantially and have a reason to provide the school(s) as to what happened the first go-around.

Just as an FYI, the school choice section came at the beginning when I took it and I don't believe I had a second opportunity to choose schools. Since I wasn't 100% certain I would achieve my goal score (and become really competitive at xyz school), I didn't use the free ones.

In the end, for me, the extra $140 was worth the peace of mind during the exam.

So you nail the exam or bomb. If you nail it great. If not, you take it again, nail it and the school sees both scores anyway when you send them. If you fail it so often you decide not to apply, who cares whether they saw it or not? No downside here!

Haha, I just couldn't get an image of the admissions office team opening up my bombed score report and just shaking their heads. "Well, hopefully he has a couple good stories for the essays to make that app worth reading..."

Agreeing here as well.

In fact, I almost missed my app date because the last piece of the puzzle they needed was the GMAT score. Had I not used the freebie thing it would not have gotten there in time.
