Job / Internship Placement Data

Question

A 1st-year friend of mine recently showed me a listing of all of the internship placements he and his classmates got at Darden. Found nothing with that kind of granularity on the Darden website. I assume most other b-school sites are as vague. But this is the kind of thing I'd like to look at before picking a b-school.

Where can we find this type of information on the web? Specifically what the "success rate" was for the last few classes (ie, % placed in jobs or internships w/in 3mos / 6mos / 1yr / etc), where they were hired (ie, financial vs manufacturing vs consulting or, even better if available, how many went to which specific employer), and stuff like that. Not sure where to start looking.

Most schools' career offices produce statistics that they put on the website showing what % were employed, as well as info on industries, functions and salaries. While most also talk about top employers and how many people each of those took, most do not go into the level of detail of position by position or student by student info.

If you know someone at the school you're targeting, you can likely get much better data. For instance, at Booth I can get a listing of every single student that accepted an offer - including the student name and the name of the firm/company for both internships as well as full time hires. It's useful data to get an idea of how many people head back to their internship employer full time, etc.

Unfortunately, I don't really feel like publicly sharing that info, but as mentioned, if you have a good connection at a school, chances are they can provide you with similar data sets.

OP, if you google: "<school name>" and add "employment report" or "placement report" at the end you will find a report like that for any school you're interested in quite quickly.

The really granular stuff is for students only as a resource, and I would imagine the school would get very annoyed if it were to get outside (privacy laws and data protection for a start).

Having just been through my MBA though, I advise caution on how you use these statistics. Some of the best and smartest in my class were very late in getting jobs. There are so many factors in how you play these things.

Regarding ethics, thanks to you all for discussing that -- very important to consider. My friend's send it to me unsolicited as the result of a conversation where we were discussing how placement worked in general -- he sent it to me as soon as he got the list from another classmate.

Kellogg´s report is the most transparent thing I´ve seen to date... maybe even too transparent!!

I think it´s specially useful for "niche" internationals (i.e. latin americans) to see wether people you can relate to are headed (company & geographically wise).
