Two different holes, hole A and hole B, are put in the bottom of a full water tank. If the water drains out through the holes, how long will it be before the tank is empty?

(1) If only hole A is put in the bottom, the tank will be empty in 24 minutes.
(2) If only hole B is put in the bottom, the tank will be empty in 42 minutes.

Option C

From st1 we don’t have the rate of B
From st2 we don’t have the rate of A
Combining we can answer as 168/13 minutes. Hence C

St 1, only gives us information on one of the holes.
St 2, only gives us information on one of the holes.

1+2, we now can calculate the combined rate since we have the rate of each hole. C

Correct answer Sasindran , but the combined rate is eleven x minute

Solution in case any interested:

Work/leak - Time - Rate
A - 24 -
B - 42 -

We can plug in a value for work/leak
24 = 6x4
42 = 6x7
Work/leak = 6x4x7 = 168

Work/leak - Time - Rate
A 168 - 24 - 7
B 168 - 42 - 4
A+B 168 - 15.27- 11
