I realize, what I'm about to share is not really a strategy - only the way I do that, but I am posting it for survey purposes - it may turn out that I am not alone...
What I try is to "trick" myself into obliterating the thought about anything else in the world for the minute or two I am working on the particular question, sometimes even repeating to myself
"this is the only thing in the world" - meaning
NOT "this is the most important thing, you should get it right, etc." BUT "any
parasite thought at this moment is less interesting and less consequential and I without justifying to myself further, I KNOW I should just obliterate it and dive into this little piece of text I am reading, because
I am a PARTICIPANT in the story on the page"
Weird, I know, but it lets me imagine
pictures, and more importantly -
STORIES.
It helps that I am ultimately suspicious by nature
of any inferences drawn form ambivalent data or anecdotal stories, especially if causality is implied (which direction it points in, is it just correlation, is it just spurious correlation, etc.)
So I already have my "issues" with the text once I have read it (even if I do not read the question itself in advance) =) =) =)
I really have no strategy for CR. I may try to use one, but I have the feeling I will fall back to the Pictures/Stories model + quick 1-2 word notes with question marks, up/down/left/right arrows and such (far from extensive notes, hardly wasting my time).
Good luck with finding the strategy that works best for you!
