hi,
i am hoping if someone can answer my question here. i am currently working in a bank at the IB OPS division. but i am interested in portfolio management since i was at college. now i am turning into 30 yrs old and i plan to get a mba and am hoping to engage in portfolio management as soon as i graduate or during the mba porgram. my question is that if it's too late to execute the plan. really appreciate your experience and advice!! Thanks!

Hi tt11234,
It is never too late to start anything. However, portfolio management often requires the CFA (chartered financial analyst) certification also. I am not saying that it is impossible to become a portfolio manager without the CFA, but it really boost your chances of getting a good job in a big institution. From what I have heard, the CFA has almost become a pre-requisite for portfolio management in the industry. Maybe should you focus on the CFA rather than on an MBA ? Or do both ! There are always many paths you can follow to achieve your goals. I know many people who are portfolio managers and only have the CFA certification. So it's up to you to decide which one suits you best.

Thank you so much for the advice!! i already started the CFA program and am a level 2 candidate. But i feel like i get stuck in OPS...doesn't want to do OPS any more...
