I took my GMAT yesterday, and received a score of 650 (48Q, 31V).
I had already postponed my test once, and had the gut feeling (which was in retrospect substantiated by my practice test scores) that I should postpone it yet again. But I didn't, hoping against all odds, that I would do better on test day.
I didn't. So here goes my documented attempt to start over.
The GMATClub forums helped me improve my Quant score tremendously - I scoured the forums regularly and adopted shortcuts and timing strategies that helped me overcome most of my weaknesses.
In June, when I took the first GMAT Prep test (scored a 640, but didn't record the raw score breakdown) I was only able to answer 31 Quant questions, and got 14 wrong. So you can imagine what the score breakdown must have been
In verbal, I had 3 SCs wrong, 3 CRs wrong (perfect on RCs).
Somewhere between then and now, my Verbal got progressively worse, with two exceptions - one MGMAT and GMATPrep test that gave me a 45V and 40V respectively. I think during the MGMAT, I was in rare form and had laser sharp focus. Anyway, I used the MGMAT SC guide, Powerscore CR... Did OG 12, quant and verbal books.
Now, I'm going to take a break for two days, since retaking the GMAT pushes my plans to apply for R1 - so I need to come to terms with that first.
But I definitely think I will be able to improve my V score while keeping Q [I was not born in the US, but my first language is English and I did all my schooling from KG to Masters in English. I attended a strict prep school, but managed to daydream through the grammar lessons]
How I will make this improvement is still the big question...
I think documenting things here will keep me accountable.
Anyway, off to enjoying my weekend after 3 months of ignoring friends, family, health... Basically getting my life back for two days =)

Congratulations !!! You are the first one whose actual GMAT score is much more than the practice test scores.....But indeed you have completed the half race.

Keep up the good fight! Definitely take a few days off. Sometimes a step back and a breather will give you the energy when its most needed.
Read in your other post about the CR question that threw you off. Yeah, it sucks when you get a tough qtn early on in the exam that puts you off your game.
All the best for your next shot. Dont forget Manhattan SC guide, and you might want to do a few LSAT CR questions from the test banks compiled by other forum posters. Heard that its like a more difficult versions of the GMAT. No personal experience with them though but some swear by them.
