The school I want to go to doesn't require the AWA portion. Any suggestions on ways to use this to my advantage? Would you just fast forward through both portions and go directly to Quant? Would it be possible to start it and then just take a break for the portion and go review your notes?

Once you start the test, any review of notes will get you disqualified. If they truly do not want to see the AWA, you have no plans of applying to another school, and are ok with an AWA of 0, then just skip both essays. This will save you 1 hour, and will keep your mind fresh for the GMAT. I would make sure that the school doesn't care about a 0 AWA though before you do that. It could be look upon negatively.
PS. Don't even bring your notes with you to the testing center. Even if they are in your locker on the break, if they think you took a look at them, you will be kicked out and your score will be canceled, you will lose your $250, and get a big mark on your score sheet saying you broke the ethics rules.
