Has anyone considered whether it would be a viable strategy to blindly guess on, say, the first 40% of the Quant? Or the Verbal for that matter.
Let's say you just guess-click the first 13 problems, and you get 20% right just out of blind dumb luck, and it takes you about 3-5 minutes to do this. Now you're going to be at the bottom of the CAT range, but you now have almost twice as much time per question on the last 18. Compounding that is the fact that the first bunch of questions are going to be very easy, so you likely will be operating on a time surplus up to the last 10 or so questions.
If, given your time cushion, you could rattle of 16 or 17 correct answers on the last 18, could this not conceivably be more beneficial than taking the test normally and running up against a time crunch at the end, thereby being more likely to falter on the home stretch?
Plus this strategy will allow you to finish strongly, which it seems is much more beneficial than starting strong with regards to a final score.

The problem with this is if you "finish strong" you might be finishing on easy-medium level questions, and thus not finishing quite so strong after all. Also - if you're finishing mainly easier problems, there's a good chance you'll have too much time left at the end of the quant section.
The GMAT isn't about how many questions you get right or wrong, it's at what difficulty level you're getting them right or wrong. Stick to 2 min per problem, and if you see a problem that you have no idea how to do, that's when you cut your losses and guess instead of messing around with it for a few minutes. By doing that, you should ensure yourself enough time to finish your test.
If you're really curious, give this strategy a shot on a practice CAT and see what happens.

Cobra - the whole strategy is based on the fact that it doesn't matter how many questions you miss, so I'm with you there. I guess a better way to phrase this would be, do you think 18 questions is enough to resurrect a score from the cellar, where it would be if you tanked the beginning. I feel like if you got all the questions right post-guess that a stretch of 18 or so correct answers would ramp you well into the upper tier. I don't think you would get 18 straight easy/medium level questions, regardless of how bad you did on your first 13.
I think the real problem here is assuming that more time will equal more right answers, which probably isn't true.
I might actually try this on a CAT and see what happens, so I'll post results later.
