Don't bother retaking. 740 is a great score and Q48 is good enough! There is no guarantee that taking it again you will hit a 740+ again.

You're better off focusing on how you can be different - how you can uniquely contribute to the classroom. Are you positioned to have a big impact on the world -- even without HSW? Why does HSW need you?
"Extra" $250, the go for it. Even if you get a lower score, schools (all top programs) look at your best score.
to get a V40 on the GMAT instead of the V39 which I managed - but I know that my time is better spent writing essays and researching schools and improving other aspects of my application). The 1 or 2 extra points on the quant probably wont be worth the time and trouble unless your college GPA is really low and you need the extra quant points to show the school that you're ready for the intellectual challenges posed by the program (actually a IMHO a 740 already justifies that
