Hi
I just gave my GMAT and scored a 770 (Q50/V44), AWA-5.5 and IR 4.
I am happy with my overall score IR score is a concern. I would like to get an opinion about whether I should repeat the GMAT.
I understand that at 770 it may seem a no-brainer. Though, here are the details. Please help me decide.
Also, I went through a few similar topics on gmatclub, I think my situation is somewhat different(see pros/cons below) - so please evaluate the situation based on these and help me decide
Why I think I should repeat:
1. I am going to apply to only the most selective schools (top 15 - but want to get into top 5)
2. I think if I repeat , the worst I'll score would still be 750 or above.
4. If things go bad - now I have the option of cancelling scores - and B-Schools won't see it
5. I took GMAT less than 10 days back, so I can repeat in 6 days with say 10-15 hours of revision/practice. So this shouldn't take much time (which I could use for other sections of my application)
6. I have heard that some top companies while hiring may consider your IR score. Though I am not sure at this stage whether I would be targeting these companies
7. I a have low GPA (2.95) with bad math grades (not too bad) - was just careless
Why I think it may be a waste of time:
1. This was my third attempt. My previous 2 scores are as follows
Attempt 1 - 700 - Q51, V33, IR - 7, AWA - 4
Attempt 2 - 720 - Q50, V36, IR -7, AWA -4.5
(Although irrelevant at this point - I retook even after 720 because the split was really bad and I had given the exam with 1 hour of sleep)
Getting back - So I have demonstrated twice before that I have scored well on IR, and I think that report will go to the B-schools. So they may see recent score of 4 as just unfortunate.
Although as I understand it, B-Schools do not consider different scores from different reports as in Quant/verbal from 1 report and IR from another.
2. I could easily address this in my Essay/Recos
If its totally unnecessary (doesn't impact even 2-3%), I would rather not take the exam again. However considering the amount of time I have given to GMAT preparation, if it would make even a little bit of difference - I will repeat.
