Hey all,
I am an Indian, pursuing for GMAT this year in August. I have currently 8 months of work ex in an IT company. So, till the time I will give GMAT I will have an years experience. In 10th I got 93% , 12th 86% and did B.Tech in Computer Science with 7.93/10 CGPA.
My doubt is that, in which colleges in INDIA or abroad I can apply where they can accept my application with 1 year of experience. I don't want to wait and get more experience, rather I want to apply this year only. What should be my approach ?
I tried searching online, but the results were not fruitful.
Thank you
Dear
jatinrajvanshi,
I'm happy to respond.
I am primarily a GMAT Expert, so I can tell you much more about the GMAT than about specialized B-school programs. A few things to consider.
1) If you have only one year of work experience, you are asking schools to take a big risk on you, and this may eliminate some more competitive schools for which you would have a much better chance with a couple years of experience. Realize that your desire to move quickly may involve the cost of going to a somewhat less competitive school. You might ask yourself if that's worth the strategic trade-off.
2) Think about why schools want a candidate with 2+ years of work experience. The business world involves its own logic, and it can be hard for an outsider to appreciate its complexity. One way to show schools that, after only one year, you are ready is by becoming an "expert" on the business world in general and on the sector you want to pursue in particular. How do you do this? By reading. Read the business news. Read the Wall Street Journal every day. Read the
Economist magazine and Bloomberg Businessweek. By the time you walk into your interviews, you head should be brimming with facts and figures. If you can impress folks with your detailed knowledge, then your relative lack of experience won't matter.
All this reading would have the secondary benefit of vastly improving your performance on the GMAT Verbal section. See:
