Hi Travis,

If you haven't worked through all of the content areas yet, then that would heavily influence your Quant performance - you haven't learned all the Tactics, Tips and little 'secrets' to each of those subjects yet. This is all meant to say that you still have a great opportunity to increase your Quant Scaled Score and Overall Score as you continue to study. "Giving up" on an RC passage is problematic though - if you want to score at the highest possible level, then you cannot afford to get 'bored' on Test Day. While it's okay to dump questions that are too hard/weird, you goal is to put together a strong overall performance over the course of 4 hours on the Official GMAT (and that means learning to stay focused and properly deal with questions that might seem a little tricky).

Thanks, Rich. Maybe "bored" wasn't the right term, but it was one of those scientific, biology-term riddled passages. I need to get better with my focus for sure. I"m encouraged by the progress so far.

Hi Travis,

GMAC has publicly stated that the score that you earn on your Official GMAT is within +/- 30 points of actual ability. Assuming a similar 'swing' in your how your practice CATs are scored, you essentially performed in the same general way on this CAT that you did on that prior CAT (which is why the two score results are so close). The similar scores imply that you're doing certain things consistently well, but that you're making the same consistent mistakes. Your Quant Scaled scores show that you're making a number of little mistakes throughout the section (some of them are likely content-based mistakes) and that you missed out on lots of 'strategy-based' points (so you're likely not using TEST IT enough).

You should either search the forums here for the questions that you got wrong or post them yourself (so that you can see the various ways to approach those questions and perhaps receive some additional perspective/advice).
