I have been asking this question to myself for quite sometime now:
Which test scores are more reliable - GMATPREP FREE Tests or the Paid Exam Packs?
I believe that test has become more complex/ tough with convoluted questions being presented to test takers. The reason i ask this question stems from this belief. If the belief is correct then the Paid Exam Packs should be more representative of the final expected score on the actual exam. If not then GMAT PREP Free tests should be equally at par and one can reset those exams and can trust the score.
Can anyone help analyse?

The 'accuracy' of a CAT score is based heavily on how realistic YOU choose to make the CAT-taking process. If you skip sections, pause the Test, take it at home, take it at a different time of day as your Official GMAT, do anything else that is unrealistic, etc., then your score is likely to be less accurate. As you score at higher-and-higher levels, the GMAT also becomes more and more 'sensitive' to little mistakes, so making just a few (in certain spots) can significantly impact your score. Remember that there are only 78 total questions between the Quant and Verbal sections (and a number of them are 'experimental', meaning that they do NOT count towards your score), so when you review a CAT you should take careful note of WHY you're getting questions wrong. If you're missing out on some easy points because you made some silly mistakes, then fixing those mistakes will be essential to locking in a higher score.

We can't comment for other tests but do note that no test prep company's algorithm will exactly match the real thing. The best we can do is get close.

In terms of our scoring, many of our students report scores that are +/- 30 points from their actual GMAT test and so are a relatively good indicator of their performance. That said, no practice test can perfectly replicate the actual score algorithm, but this is quite close.
We can't comment for other tests but do note that no test prep company's algorithm will exactly match the real thing. The best we can do is get close.
