I have never been one to post things on forums or blogs of any kind. I tend to be more passive online and either breeze through the topics posted to see what people recommend and what others are going through to see if they have a similar sort of story as me. So this is entirely new for me and any help whatsoever would be godsend! So here goes...
Just a little background about me. I work in the hospitality industry - more specifically in the Food & Beverage department. I graduated from a hospitality college in the US, worked there for a year as a Manager-in-Training. I moved to India as an Assistant Manager and got an internal transfer with my company, after completing one year, to Dubai.
I have worked for two of the best companies in the industry but I am really looking to change my field... I know that the GMAT, and ultimately getting my MBA would be the best course for me to take. My profile isn't your usual applicant's profile but I know that I have solid real world experience and business acumen. I am currently in the process of overhauling the restaurant I manage - basically everything required to open a new restaurant, i.e. operations, budgeting, business plan (ROI), marketing, liaising with all the departments and outside vendors/partnerships, etc.
My undergrad GPA was approximately a 2.9, which isn't ideal. However, I want to utilize this opportunity to crack the GMAT (I'm aiming for a 720). The first diagnostic test I took through Kaplan gave me a 560... My breakdown was Q37 V30. I am working on my verbal skills at the moment and have brought it up to a 34. The breakdown I am aiming for is Q43 and V45. I am planning on taking my first GMAT in the beginning of September just in case I need to take another one.
Materials used:
Princeton Review GMAT 2016
How to Crack the GMAT 2016
Kaplan GMAT Premier 2016
MagooshOG 2016
I am looking for any guidance or materials that I should be using besides the ones that I have already used... Again, I know it is going to be a pretty tough uphill struggle but I am unwaveringly focused on achieving this because I know it is my best chance to get into a good MBA program. I think my overall packet is pretty solid but the GMAT is my golden ticket!
The universities I am planning on applying to are:
Harvard (because, why not?... If I don't apply I feel like I will regret it)
INSEAD
Booth
University of Toronto
LSB (London School of Business)
Imperial College
Thanks for reading this (I didn't realize how long it ended up being...)!
