Hi!
I passed the GMAT for the first time yesterday and scored a 680. I am aiming for a 700 so will be re-taking it in a month. I wanted to know if you guys had any tips to improve a very low quant score? I scored the 96th percentile in verbal and 85th in IR but scored 45th percentile in math.
I was flustered as I've scored around the 60-70th in all my practice ones and was confused to why I scored such a low score in quant. I have gone through all the
MGMAT quant books and done all the OG problems, kept an
error log, the whole drill but the quant is stagnant. I was also really slow and ended up having to guess on 6 math problems when I took the official GMAT.
I have a month to work on getting my quant score up in order to break the 700 barrier and my question is simply:
Given that I have just a month, what's my best strategy to get my quant score in the 43s?thank you for your help!
First of all, Is 680 your official GMAT Score? If yes, congrats on 96th percentile in Verbal. That's a great verbal score. Secondly, improving quant in 30 days is doable. you would need to practice, no doubt, but doable.
I think you would gain the most by learning better all the concepts. So, even if you have solved a question correctly, concentrate on the underlying concept. Spend a minute or two to find alternate ways to solve that problem. You can also check this forum for same. You should understand that the way you attempt verbal section is very different from that of quant section. Most of the questions in quant can be solved in atleast 2 different ways while this may not be true for verbal.
As far as books are concerned, though
Manhattan Prep's Quant books have covered almost all the concepts, they do lack the GMAT-type questions. That's why they augment OG questions with their books. So, look deeply in the OG questions to realize the alternate solutions. You can also try Quant Review but be warned that questions in Quant review are easier than those in OG. Besides this, you can practice questions in this forum. Questions here have some of the best explanations. Additionally, there are a few threads in this forum in which you will find the most tested topics in Quant. Be sure to check them and consolidate those topics.
Last but not the least, make sure that you spend some time practicing verbal as well.
