I have seen multiple posts where people say do XYZ thing or XYZ material for GMAT
Someone please shed some light on what NOT to do while preparing for GMAT

Hi haardiksharma ,
- Sporadic study schedule - a regular and planned study schedule is effective
- Practice tests - One should stick to GMAT prep practice tests and try prep company test only for additional practice. Also, don't take too many practice tests.
- Not taking the entire practice tests - don't skip the sections - AWA and IR
- Not doing analysis of the errors - you should learn from each error
- Procrastinating taking the GMAT until the very end - you should have some time to retake in case the first attempt does not go as per plan.
- Taking too many practice tests in the last week and trying to cover a lot of new things in last few days.
- Know the route to the test center so that you are not stressed out on the day of GMAT.
- Relax and don't stress out too much and give your best. Also, understand that it is only an exam.

1) Don't mindlessly answer questions without marking certain ones for review later.

I get so many questions on this - people writing in that they've exhausted all OG questions and can't study any more. Really? There are hundreds of them -- I bet you if you review them now, you won't get 100% correct -- even if you saw them before. If that's true, then you haven't really learned from your mistakes. Keep reviewing mistakes until you don't make them any more. If you still make mistakes, then that means you haven't fully learned. So don't make the mistake of breezing through thousands of questions without true review.

2) For purposes of the exam, don't try to study for it by studying outside resources. Some people recommend reading the Economist, for example. You can, but if your immediate need is on reading comprehension passages - focus on those. The back and forth question and answer from reading passages will help far more than if you simply read an Economist passage without going through questions and possible answer choices.

Sample reading passages: https://www.gmatpill.com/practicequestio ... tions.html

3) Don't fall asleep when studying. If you do, that means you are not in the right mental state. I, for sure, fell asleep many times - but I would do mini-exercises to pump myself up for boring passages. In other words, I would force myself to get super excited about something really boring. If I don't do that, then I will fall asleep and waste time.
