I want to write my time tables for quant and verbal sometime as soon as I sit down; ideally during some period when time has not elapsed yet. I am aware the tutorial screen is timed but what about the screen when you first sit down? Does time start as soon as you sit down or do you have to click something first?
On a sidenote how much time do I have to spend on the tutorial screens before the test starts?

Welcome to GMATClub :)
The very first screen is to accept that you are the right person giving the exam.
You will have just 1 or 2 mins to accept or reject that you are the right person. If you don't your exam would be automatically cancelled and you won't be able to get the refund.
Once you accept, you will have few minutes to read the instructions and go ahead.
In short, every screen is timed and you need to make sure you are doing everything timely.

GMAC started timing everything after a while. They wanted to recapture the extra time people were using including the extra time during breaks in order to fit an extra test session in.
Also as you can imagine, it is hard to be punctual for the next test taker coming after you.
