I took my second GMAT today, and although I am coming down with something, bumped my score from 660 to 710. It was a very odd test however. One of the verbal questions was missing content in the reading section, and the computer kicked me out with 90 seconds left (I left 2 verbal questions blank as a result. I was about to answer question #40 when the test suddenly ended). The administrator filed a case with the IT department, although I don't know if anything will come of it. I likely missed the "blank" answer (which cost me a couple of minutes trying to get the attention of the proctor) as well as leaving the last 2 questions blank on the verbal.
My breakdown was 47 Quant, 41 verbal, or 63Q/94V percentile. Does this low Quant score hurt my chances at a top 15 school? My undergraduate degree is in Chemical Engineering and I am not exactly weak in math, but 63rd percentile is pretty lousy. Speaking of lousy, I am not great at taking timed math tests, and being on the verge of getting sick certainly didn't help.
For comparison's sake, I scored an 88 percentile on a recent Economist GMAT test and a 78 on the "official" prep test software. I could likely re-take the exam and score close to 80th percentile in the Quant.
Is there a risk to taking the exam again? Do schools take only your highest score, or do they take the score you submit/best score?
Thank you in advance! The forum is a great resource; this is my first post on the site, but as a lurker, I have found many posts very informative.
