Hello,
My first GMAT experience was in 2013. I bought the OG book (13th edition), studied for like 3 weeks just doing problems and I got a 540 (Q34 V31).
The program I got into didn't put a big emphasis on the test so I didn't give it much thought. I ended up not attending the program.
Fast forward to 2017, I am applying to the Fully Employed MBA (part-time) at UCLA anderson. So the GMAT now is more important.
I signed up for the
MGMAT course in October with hopes of taking the test in early January2018 to apply by Round 1.
I will admit that I do not feel I approached the studying correctly. I put a lot of time into it but I don't feel it was the most efficient (studying hard, not smart). I focused a lot on the content and not enough on practicing. As I went through the course, my practice exams were as follows:
Practice test 1 590 (Q38 V34)
Practice test 2 610 (Q38 V35)
Practice test 3 590 (Q38 V33)
It seems my scores are stuck. I read somewhere it means that I know content but am getting tricked by the questions. I have to agree, this might sound really dumb but I never look at solutions for problems I don't get right (in quant) and say to myself "oh yeah, I didn't know how to do that". It is always "of course that's how you do it!" So it is super frustrating. I used to think math was one of my strong points in school overall but maybe I was wrong.
The programs range is 620-720, with 680 being their middle 80% I believe. Like most schools, they really look at your quant score, and per some events I have attended they really like to see a 60% minimum for quant, which is a 46. So my goal now is to take the exam in Late March maybe early April before their last round deadline in late April. My top priority is to get my Quant to 46+ so that I meet the 60% minimum. I would love to improve my Verbal score too but if I have to fix one I prefer to fix the quant since they look at it more heavily. If I can reach the 46 goal in quant and at least maintain my verbal score I'll be at around 650-680, which is not the best score but it is in their range and I will meet the 60% quant minimum. The rest of my application I believe is strong enough to do the rest.
This long post is essentially asking if anybody knows of any resources or best way to improve quant score when it is stuck.
The resources I currently have is full access to the
Manhattan Prep content/books, OG 13th edition (old) and OG 2017 book.
I still have 3 practice exams left for
MGMAT, access to all 6
gmat club test, and have not taken any of the 2 gmac practice exams.
I am willing to invest on other courses/materials for quant if they are not too expensive and can really help break the glass ceiling on my quant score. Any verbal upgrades at this points are extra for me.
I have read great things about math revolution but not sure if I should invest in that. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Saul
