Good question. Your AWA gets graded regardless. You will get a score a few weeks later after they score it thoug since you canceled, you won’t see it.

Wait I missed the second part of your message. If I don’t see it, how would I reinstate? What if I failed the AWA?

Hey strivingFor800 ,

What bb meant was if you cancel your score, you won't be able to see your AWA score (even though it has been graded). But the moment you request for reinstate, you will be able to see your AWA score along with other three scores.

I hope that helps :-)

A few points:

1. Cancellation is possible only before the official score report is generated, within a 72 hour window. Because your AWA score is disclosed only when the official score report is generated, you will not be able to see the AWA score for a cancellation unless you reinstate your score.

2. You can't "fail" AWA. Even a low score (say 2 or 3) is unlikely. For example, a 4 is 18%. That means more than 80% of all the people who take the GMAT get a score of 4 or more.

It's the "big" scores (total, quant, and verbal) that really matter. Don't avoid reinstating a score that you feel would work for you just because you feel that there is a small chance that you will not do well in AWA.
