Took the test 16 days ago and scored 720 (49Q, 40V, 6IR)... On my GMAT prep tests, I had scored 770 x2, 760, 750 x2, 740... so I knew I could improve. Today I retook the test and scored 730 (49Q, 40V, 8IR), obviously I was hopping for a more significant increase but whatever. Test-related anxiety is probably what explains the discrepancies between the real tests and CATs. I am disappointed because I know that I am very capable of scoring 750+.
So what should I do now? I aim to secure admission to any of the following MBA programs: Harvard, Columbia, Wharton, Booth, Sloan, Stanford. Should I strongly consider another retake or focus on other parts of the application to maximize my odds of admission? Right now I'm not very motivated and I wouldn't be able to prepare for the next 2 months. However, I come from an over-represented pool of applicants... 730 is clearly unimpressive.
My profile:
- White male from western Europe
- Business undergrad + Finance MSc in top European schools. GPA 80 percentile of my class aprox. I think it's 3.0 - 3.3 but not sure
- I work in consulting: Business analyst at McKinsey & Company (they'll pay for the MBA hopefully)
- By 2020, I'll have 3 years of full-time work experience and I'll be 26
- No community involvement so far (this will be a priority from now on)
I have over a year left, so I'll have enough time to put together a decent application and apply in round 1. In addition, if it came down to it, I tend to perform well in interviews.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
PS: This is my first post. GMAT Club has been great and I'll surely be a more active participant discussing other elements of the MBA application.
